Avian & Exotics Diagnostics

Avian Infectious Disease PCR Panel

The Avian Infectious Disease PCR Panel is a comprehensive molecular diagnostic assay designed to detect the DNA or RNA of critical pathogens that cause infectious diseases in avian species. This panel targets avian polyomavirus 1, avian bornavirus, Psittacid herpesvirus 1, Chlamydia psittaci, and Psittacine beak and feather disease virus (PBFDV). Using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology, this test offers high sensitivity and specificity, enabling early and accurate detection of these pathogens in clinical samples such as cloacal swabs, blood, and tissues.

Specimen

2 ml EDTA whole blood and moist swabs of the affected areas (cloacal swab and fecal swab),

Collection Guidelines

  1. Collect an adequate amount of blood in a K3 EDTA (purple top tube). Gently mix blood well after collection. Refrigerate sample at 4oC until shipment.
  2. Moist swabs are preferred; it is recommended to add 1-2 drops of sterile saline to the swab and place in a sterile, leak-proof container (e.g. red top tube).
  3. Tissue: Samples must be submitted in sealed, leak-proof, wide-mouth plastic containers.
